Hey hey everyone! So as 2018 comes to an end, I thought I’d put out one last little selection of new choonz I’m currently loving! Hope you enjoy these December picks :D
Ariana Grande - thank u next
Yes it’s the song you can’t run from… the song that EVERYONE is talking about… and I absolutely love it! I’m crazy excited for Ariana’s next album so soon after Sweetner and loving everything she’s putting out musically right now. Plus this music video is a teen movie nostalgia bomb and I can’t get enough of it! Truly iconic.
Paul Andreas - Wrapped Up
One of my bestest friends Paul Andreas launched this awesome original Christmas song this year and it’s so much festive fun you’ll want to listen on repeat. With more hilarious Xmas references than you can shake a jingle bell at, you will regret not putting this on your December playlist. We don’t give a snowflake!
TWICE - Yes Or Yes
K-Pop supergroup TWICE recently made a return to the Korean music scene and this song and video pretty much sum up all the reasons I love them. Super cute and catchy with amazing visuals - an instant classic in their collection.
Ashley Tisdale - Voices In My Head
I fricking LOVE Ashley Tisdale, she is an underrated queen of pop and her solo albums are some of my all-time favourite in the genre. I’m so happy she’s back with new music and this new track has really thoughtful lyrics behind the catchy melody. I hope there will be more music where this came from!
Sabrina Carpenter - Sue Me
Sabrina Carpenter deserves so much more acclaim, she is a total star and her music skirts that cool line between mainstream pop and singer-songwriter. I love the lyrical concept of “Sue Me” and the video is so much fun. Can’t wait to check out the whole of her new album.
Kesha - Here Comes The Change
This new track by Kesha from the movie “The Basis Of Sex” really slipped under the radar, but it’s a hidden gem that goes back to Kesha’s songwriting roots. The video is beautiful too and as with most of Kesha’s material, the message is inspiring and empowering.
Miley Cyrus & Mark Ronson - Nothing Breaks Like A Heart
Miley’s latest hit with the magnificent Mark Ronson is the perfect blend of old-school country meets modern pop. Such a gorgeous song with a political message, I’m so excited for the next phase of Miley’s career because this is a sound that suits her so well.
Busted - Reunion
Ahh Busted… The first band I ever saw live and one of my earliest musical loves. I was so sad when they split up and I never thought I’d see the day they all got back together, let alone went back to their pop-punk roots. Their new track is perfect nostalgia for the old fans and feels like an updated version of what they always did best!
Steve Aoki & BTS - Waste It On Me
As a K-Pop writer it’s so exciting to me how BTS are taking over the Western world right now. DJ Steve Aoki headlines this track featuring BTS singing in English, it’s Korea meets US and for a dance track it’s bloody excellent. Also that guy from Community is in the video, love it.
Avril Lavigne - Tell Me It’s Over
This is the second release from Avril’s upcoming, long-awaited new album and has sultry smooth soulful vibes. It’s an interesting direction for her and feels sophisticated yet classic Avril at the same time.
Thanks for checking out all my picks over the last few months - I’ve actually put all my blog post picks into one playlist if you’d like to take a listen!
NEXT YEAR I will be doing this whole playlist thing properly and making a regular monthly playlist… 1 song per day! I can’t wait for the challenge, hope you’ll come join me for the ride :)
